Time: 4:00-6:00 P.M.

Location: In-person viewing/hybrid panel discussion

Kansas City: School of Nursing G013

      Wichita: Sunflower Room

      Salina: Community Room

Join us for a hybrid film screening of “From Separate to Equal: The Creation of Truman Medical Center” in observance of Black History Month. The documentary traces the history of healthcare in Kansas City’s Black community—revealing the courage, resilience, and community leadership that shaped today’s medical landscape.

Following the screening, Academy Award–winning filmmaker and University of Kansas Professor Emeritus Kevin Willmott, along with experts from the KU Medical Center and the broader Kansas City community, will lead a conversation on the film, the legacy of segregation in health care, and the ongoing efforts at KU Medical Center to build healthy and vibrant communities today. The panel will begin at approximately 5:15 P.M. in Kansas City and will be streamed via Zoom, so participants in Wichita or Salina can join. Together, we will explore how history informs healing, how communities foster resilience, and how we work collectively to promote healthier futures. This event is open to all KU and KU Medical Center students, learners, staff, faculty, and affiliates.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all KU-sponsored events. If you require reasonable accommodations in order to participate, please contact the Office of Civil Rights & Title IX atbelonging-kumc@kumc.edu.
