Belonging @ KU Series

This educational programming series is an interdisciplinary, multimodal opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to explore identity, culture, and the meaning of community.

Join the Office of Civil Rights & Title IX on Tuesday, March 31st, 2026, for the next Belonging @ KU event, “Belonging @ KU: First-Generation Perspectives in Higher Education.” This panel of KU experts will explore the evolving experiences of first-generation (first-gen) students, staff, and faculty in higher education. The speakers will share insights from their professional, research, and personal endeavors, highlighting the wide range of experiences of first-gen individuals, including undergraduate students, non-traditional learners, graduate students, and employees. Attendees will build awareness of what it means to be first-generation at a micro-level within our learning communities and at a macro-level at the University of Kansas.

Time: 1:00-2:00 P.M.

Location: Virtual via Zoom

The Belonging @ KU series showcases the innovation and excellence of University of Kansas scholars and practitioners, emphasizing KU’s commitment to fostering a dynamic community where each Jayhawk can thrive.  

The “Belonging @ KU: First-Generation Perspectives in Higher Education” event will feature valued members of the KU community, including Angela Hendershot, Professor in the  School of Journalism and Mass Communications; Alejandra Hernandez-Castro, Associate Director for TRIO Student Support Services; and Jorge Aragon, a KU pre-medical student and President of FIRST (Fearless Individuals Reaching Success Together), who plans to pursue medical school at University of Kansas Medical Center. 

This event is free and open to all KU and KU Medical Center students, staff, faculty, and affiliates. Registration is required. Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all KU-sponsored events.
