Belonging @ KU Series
January 27 - Belonging @ KU: Religion, Culture, and Community
Have you wondered about religious or spiritual practices during your time here at KU? How might they contribute to our identities? Do these practices generally divide us or unite us? These are common questions to contemplate as we each grow in our independence, identities, and communities. This talk will introduce religion as an aspect of culture and identity. Together, we’ll define “religion” and “spirituality” and investigate how they affect our lives at KU, in Kansas, and in the United States. We will also examine how people bring these practices into their community work.
November 12 - Belonging @ KU: Social Class & Culture in our Campus Community
Social class is a complex phenomenon related to our identities, communities and culture that is often overlooked. Yet, its presence and influence in our lives are undeniable. This session will explore the complexity of social class as a phenomenon and how it manifests in our experiences in higher education. Attendees will learn about trends related to broader social inequity in the U.S. and how that inequity is relevant to our campus community. The session will close by featuring additional learning opportunities and campus resources that support people facing economic adversity.
