RISE Toolkit

The RISE Toolkit supports campus efforts to promote access, belonging, respect, and success. To ensure that our actions align with our vision, mission, values, and the RISE framework, we invite all community members to use the RISE Toolkit, including students, staff, faculty, and administrators.

How do I use the RISE Toolkit?

If you are an undergraduate or graduate student, the Toolkit provides links to many campus resources that can help you build a meaningful experience here at KU. We also provide calendars to related programs and opportunities for campus engagement.

For campus staff, your roles are varied and multiple: from supporting the campus infrastructure to developing research programs and performance spaces. Your experiences are vital to helping us cultivate a culture of belonging at KU. Academic and non-academic staff support students, staff, and faculty across the university. It is vital that all staff lead and facilitate engagement in their units to promote access, respect, and belonging as a shared experience on our campus. We encourage staff participation in developing and implementing unit-level action plans.

Faculty can utilize the RISE Toolkit to strengthen their knowledge and skills and ensure that their research, teaching, and service are promoting access, belonging, respect, and success.

Being an administrator takes many forms. From department chairs and center directors to supervisory grounds keepers, associate deans, and vice provosts, administrators help keep the infrastructure of the university operating while helping students, staff, and faculty reach their goals. Administrators at KU are dedicated to providing opportunities to empower students, staff, and faculty to help cultivate a culture where each Jayhawk feels valued.

Expand Your Knowledge

Creating meaningful change begins with each of us understanding the topics at hand. It can be challenging to know whether resources are reliable or accurate. The DEIB Concept Library was curated specifically to educate the KU community about key concepts, terms, and common questions.

History and Development of the DEIB Toolbox/RISE Toolkit

The DEIB Toolbox was developed by the KU Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, in partnership with the Center for Community Health and Development at the University of Kansas. The original toolbox and the toolkit as it exists now would not be possible without significant intellectual contributions from Vice Provost Nicole Hodges Persley. The toolbox was the manifestation of her vision and she dedicated countless hours to its development.

The toolkit became part of the Office of Civil Rights & Title IX portfolio in Fall 2024 when the Impact & Belonging team was created.

Financial support toward the development and ongoing maintenance of this toolkit has been provided by Commerce Bank.
